The 2007 Northeast outdoor race season opened up for real this past weekend in Egg Harbor, NJ and Bizzarro was there in true “rock star” fashion. From pro class victories to product tosses, mystery moto’s to ending the show with an encore 2-hour clinic performance, Bizzarro was the main attraction for sure.

The NBL’s East Coast National served as Bizzarro’s opening clinic of 2007. Scheduled for a Saturday after racing event the team sponsored 12 “mystery moto’s” offering awards from PowerBar, Fly, THE and Finish Line and then to help pass the time in between the quarters and semi’s, held a product toss to keep the crowd happy with plenty of PowerBar’s and T-shirts.

Of course you know we kicked butt on the track as well, I only wish ANYONE was there to take pictures of the action (can’t wait to see the race article in BMX Today with no pictures!). Here is a listing of how our team rider fared in Egg Harbor:

Nick St. Lawrence: Returned from the longest layoff of his career and had no problems working his new Welham aluminum frame through the moto’s and semi on to the Elite Open main event. Nick was dressed to the 9’s in his new THE ONE composite helmet with white FLY lite gloves and FLY goggles. After a so so start Nick ended with a 5th for the day. Elite Teammate Allen Currier rode strong (and looks much stronger) but did not make the main event cut.

Kayla Gaddis: Kayla used her Intense tires to carve the first turn and her KMC chain to lay the power down and win the abbreviated versus of the Women’s Elite Open class in New Jersey. 3 girls = easy $ for Gaddis.

Shawn DiPrete
: Had a 35+Over X double perfect in his hands until BMX Legend Rich Farside showed his home track advantage in the last turn and pulled Shawn down the last straight. See the video on vintagebmx.com. Shawn’s new THE ONE carbon helmet and Welham aluminum frame wasn’t enough to get him the last straight smooth enough to earn the win.

Susie Levan
: Susie made her Bizzarro team debut in Egg Harbor, a well-deserved ride after winning the National # 1 plate in 2006. Fueled by PowerBar’s she had no problems handling a 30 & over combined woman’s cruiser class.

Michele Peters
: Michele came up from Florida to battle in both the 17 & over girls (3rd) class and the 17-24 girls cruiser. In cruiser Michele was combined with 16 year olds and waiting till the main event to show her patented “box turn” move in turn one to take the victory. Only a firm grip provided by ODI locking grips and smooth Cane Creek headset could allow her to make such a move.

Austin Loebe: After dominating all of his in both 14 Expert and Cruiser Austin over thank the gate in 14 x and ending coming from behind from gate 8 for a 3rd place finish. Nothing of the sorts would happen on new Intense cruise r with Thomson post and stem though, as he took home the victory in the main event. Step dad Don Boulerice found his way into the tough 40-44 cruiser class main event finishing 7th.

Dave Bedford
: Dave had his hands full battling the “super model” in 30-34x all day long, then his Rennen counter part George Costa knocked him around in the main event. 4th for the day should open his eyes enough to get him training correctly for the Meriden Connecticut Regional National coming up in a few weeks.

Justin Lopes (25-29 x) and Menardo Simon (14x) both were on hand to compete and made their mains, then lent their expertise to the clinic instruction. Pam Oldham (45 & over woman’s cruiser) continued on her quest not to get the last national number in the class by competing in Saturday’s racing. While Rick Marceau’s (35-39cru) truck could be heard revving it’s custom exhaust system exiting the parking lot on Friday by some moron driving it. Both combined to handle clinic sign up’s pit area operations from start to finish on Saturday.

Our Team Sheet score was an 85 on Saturday for a 3rd place non-money finish, while Sunday’s racing was rained out. While a disappointing score for the day, this will actually help quite a bit in the year end battle for new jersey’s, errr I mean bonus money.

Up next for the team COULD be a Woodbridge, VA national team sheet performance under the guidance of Kayla Gaddis. For sure the full dog and pony show pulls up next in Meriden Connecticut on May 12th for a day of regional national racing followed by another expertise clinic session afterwards.
